Rockwell’s client is a highly respected multimedia group which publishes a daily national newspaper, runs multiple websites and mobile products and has a growing syndication division as well as a books operation.
The group is Private Equity backed and has a strategy to further develop its digital capability to become a major player within digital sports media and betting both in the UK and internationally.
The business employs approximately 300 permanent staff and hires freelancers and contractors. The group has invested significantly in the development of digital products and services for both existing and potential markets.
The group was keen to make a key senior commercial appointment to spearhead the growth of its digital businesses. The Commercial Director – Digital was responsible for managing and developing a range of betting and affiliate businesses across the group. The role was also P&L responsible for all existing betting and affiliate businesses as well as playing a leading role in further developing its acquisition strategy to acquire new affiliate partners to further extend its reach into new sports and grow the group internationally.Search Process
Given the strong sports betting component of the role, the search focused on identifying and engaging senior commercial talent within the sports betting industry. Candidates considered included Managing Directors, Commercial Directors, Sportsbook Directors, Chief Customer Officers, Chief Operating Officers and Sales and Marketing Directors within larger betting brands, as well as smaller affiliates and other earlier stage sports betting businesses. The search was also international and targeted candidates across Europe as well as the UK and Ireland.Outcome
